ISGC Attended Iowa State Homecoming Kickoff Celebration

ISGC Staff attended the Iowa State Homecoming Kickoff Celebration last Sunday, October 30th and interacted with youth and adults attending the event, sharing all about STEM and NASA.
Special thanks for Iowa State University President Wendy Wintersteen and Dean Laura Jolly for coming to visit ISGC as well.
Assistant ISGC Director Matthew Nelson and the M:2:I Laboratory demonstrated how to prepare a High Altitude Balloon for launch, and then sent it up in the air for all of the celebration to see. Many youth dressed up as astronauts and launched straw rockets while learning about trajectory and aerodynamic concepts.
Thank you to everyone for coming to visit our booth! Happy Homecoming!

Good Night Oppy Amazon Select Audience Premiere Screening

Iowa Space Grant Consortium and Iowa State University Department of Aerospace Engineering, in association with Club for the Future and Prime Video, is thrilled to invite you to an exclusive screening of Good Night Oppy.

This free event lands in Ames, IA on October 26th, 2022 at the Ames Cinemark Movies 12 Theater (1317 Buckeye Ave, Ames, IA 50010), with the film premiering at 7pm.

Good Night Oppy tells the inspirational true story of Opportunity, a rover that was sent to Mars for a 90-day mission but ended up surviving for 15 years. The film follows Opportunity’s groundbreaking journey on Mars and the remarkable bond forged between a robot and her humans millions of miles away.

45 minutes before showtime at 7pm, there will be pre-screening activities, including creating a postcard to fly to space and back snap your own “out of this world” selfie…and more! At 7pm the film will premiere, with introductions by the Iowa Space Grant Consortium.

When the film ends, explore your questions with a Iowa State Faculty member in a Q&A session all while learning about out-of -this-world research happening right here in Iowa.

Tickets are free and will be confirmed on a first-come first-served basis. Registration is required to attend. Sign-up early to save your spot!
